Day 4 - St Bees to Dumbarton

It was warm and sunny so I started the day with a planned 5 mile run.  I think I found the least hilly route but it was still very undulating. 

We drove straight to Dumbarton with just one comfort stop.  There were a few heavy showers on the way but sunny in between. We arrived 90 mins ahead of check in time so we made for the town centre where parking was free everywhere.   It is quite a small town with the usual shops and lots of churches.  It is on the River Leven and there is a riverside walk which we did part of.  It has a castle but reviews said you had to climb in excess of 500 steps, so not suitable for Paul so we gave this a miss.

We checked into our Travelodge and had a rest before getting the bus back to Dumbarton for our evening meal.

Day 9 - Skye - Waternish Peninsula and North West Skye

It was cloudy this morning and we had showers on and off all day but fortunately most were when we were driving.    We made our way north again but this time to the Waternish peninsula which is west of where we were yesterday.   On the way we stopped at St Colomba's Island which is the site of an ancient burial ground and remains of the cathedral of the Bishop of the Isles from 1079-1498.  Apparently some of the Knights Templar are buried here.  Although this shows on tourist maps it was very difficult to find our way in.  There are no signs until you get to the site.  It is on an island in the River Snizort.  From the other side of the river we could see other visitors but it took a while to work out how to get there. Day 17 - Badcall Bay to Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebredes

It seems the good weather from the south is making its way up to the north of Scotland.  There has hardly been a cloud in the sky all day. I did a final 2 mile run before leaving and saw 2 cuckoos in a tree and stopped to watch them for a while.  It was very warm and sunny so I took a few more photos of the area. Day 26 - Barra to Oban

We were up really early to get the 07:00 ferry to Oban.  Our B&B had kindly left out lots of breakfast options for us.   View from B&B at 5:30 It was a lovely sunny morning although rain was forecast for later. Castlebay Harbour We left 5 minutes early and the crossing to Oban was quite rough for the first couple of hours until we approached The Isle of Mull and then sailed down the the Sound of Mull which was really pretty with Mull to the west and the mainland of Scotland to the east.
