Day 3 - Whitehaven

We caught the bus to Whitehaven this morning.  There was a very cold, strong wind but we had a fair bit of sunshine until early afternoon when showers started.  Whitehaven could be a lovely town if it was maintained a bit better.  The marina area is very nice with lots of historic buildings.  The town has a lot of lovely old buildings and modern statues but many shops have shut down and just left empty or boarded up and others really need to be painted or repaired.

After a rest back at the hotel, we drove into St Bees village and had a walk along the main street.  From what we could see, there is just one shop (post office and general store) and at least 4 pubs.  There are a lot of roadworks works going on for a major resurfacing project and one workman told us we couldn't have picked a worse time to visit.  There are some nice old houses in the village.  It would be good to return when it is finished.
