Day 2 - Burnley to St Bees
I started the day with a slow 3 mile run, as per my plan. I found it quite hard and still ached from Sunday. The Premier Inn is situated within 3 very well maintained parks so it was easy to find good off road paths.
Our first stop after leaving the hotel was the Singing, Ringing Tree, a sculpture high on the moors above Burnley and our main reason for
coming here. It is made of different sized pipes which make a musical sound as the wind blows through. Today was very windy so it made some quite loud sounds, which were quite eerie. The views were not great as it was cloudy and misty but on a clear day it is possible to see some of the peaks in the Yorkshire Dales.
We then made our way to Settle to see Scaliber Foss, one of the large waterfalls in the area. This one was only 80m from the parking area so easy for Paul to get to. It wasn't spectacular as there hasn't been much rain recently. By this time the sun had appeared but there was a cold wind. We drove a bit higher and found somewhere with a nice view to park up for our lunch break.
We had a walk around Settle, where we stayed about 3 years ago and had an ice cream in The Naked Man Cafe, where there were no men, let alone naked ones.
We had planned another stop at Sizeagh, a National Trust site near Kendal but it closed at 4 so we wouldn't have had much time there.
We checked into our hotel, had dinner there and went for a short walk to the coast path. It is here that the coast to coast path starts/ends depending on where you start from.
